Elsewhere, I was part of a discussion where chain dereferencing came up. In many languages, you would write
foo.bar.blee.quuz()
but in Perl, you would write
$foo->bar->blee->quuz()
My take is that they're functionally the same, and preferring dots to skinny arrows, just typing two characters not one. Liking one is fashion. It's skinny ties over fat ties. I "Get The Knack" as much as anyone, but don't much care about the width of the tie.
