A lot of people hear “abolish the police” and fret about who would protect them from violent actors, because their primary conception of violence is *interpersonal.* A mugger, a murderer, etc.
But the vast majority of violence in contemporary capitalist society is systemic, not interpersonal. And cops not only don’t interfere with that systemic violence, they *facilitate* that violence.
