Yesterday and today I've been working with my tech director on programming the lighting for our community production of 'Something Rotten!' and it's been a lot of fun. There's a whole musical number that's nothing but rapid-fire references to other musicals.

There's one reference to "Seasons of Love" from 'Rent' ("Some musicals are very serious", with the piano chords behind it) and I asked my tech director how she planned on doing the iconic lighting cue for it.

She didn't know the cue.

She's never seen Rent.

I had to explain the cue to her.

We're losing the ancient knowledge.
