I wasted some time helping someone w a failing metal drive (w pop up warnings) the other day by cloning to an SSD only to discover a key app wouldn't run bc of copy protection. 🙄 Windows, ofc. A different kind of ransomware.
Fortunately a Windows Reset (new to me) and a remote reinstall worked. But... Business owner can't make a restorable backup. Nor can software vendor as copy protection s/w is licensed (from another party said to be normally unresponsive). 🤦♂️
