I grew up in a home that had rules that weren’t meant to be followed. They were convoluted and conflicting because the goal was to make sure you could always be punished. There’s two ways to respond to this:

1. Do your best to follow the rules. Internalize shame and failure. Make yourself as small and invisible as possible

2. Do whatever you want. Fuck it. There is no way to “be good” so take every opportunity to live. Get really good at breaking the rules, they were meant to be broken anyways
