It is not being combative or adversarial to ask for clarification of a statement that could have different meanings.

It feels combative and adversarial to assume someone is acting in bad faith, call someone "combative" and "adversarial," and say they should "leave that behavior on Twitter" when that someone is attempting in good faith to understand what they are saying.

Being called combative when I am just trying to understand makes me combative.
