A little garden-scrolling this morning.
We’ve had a very cool spring, so this week of moderately above average temperatures felt really hot to the animal kingdom but was just what the plants needed.
The Purple Mountain field corn is starting to tassel! And even the sweet corn over in the terraces is starting to show some growth.
The parsnips are gaining height under their anti-chicken netting. I was hoping they’d sprout through the net and I could just leave it in place until harvest, but their big slow leaves are pushing the mesh up instead.
I sowed the Mideast Peace cukes at the beginning of June. They sat around with two leaves for the whole month, but now they’ve started to expand, and they’re so *chonky.* Stems the size of my fingers!
The top dressed compost really helped both bean beds too. Their color is coming in better, they grew over the warm week, and they’re making tiny buds now.
