My mom would point to Illinois USA is on a world map and say "this is Illinois where we live" but I thought she was pointing at the entire United States and calling it "Illinois". To my kid brain the US looked (and still does look) like an elephant. And I thought "Illinois" was the onomatopoeia for the sound an elephant made lmao.
