SQLite is ubiquitous and about as easy to use as you'll get for a “real” SQL DB. I've used Redis for several small-scale projects, if a key-value store is good enough for your usecase the simplicity rocks. Firebase is also delightful if you're willing to offload everything to a third-party service and aren't worried about crossing the free tier threshold.
