God in the Bible is the result of the merger of the cults of at least two different deities. One is El, who in the preceding Ugaritic and Canaanite myths was a heavenly father figure, easy going, and tends to delegate to his kids. The other is Yahweh a warrior god who is all about war, and conquest. Yahweh was pretty much unknown in the Levant before the Israelites brought Him with them from Arabia.
