As I understand it, in fedimint, there won't be one federation. Anyone can set up a federation for their local community and federations are interoperable with one another.
The main difference between the two is that fedimint is a multisig system and cashu is single sig.
I'm bullish on both only until lightning is private and lightning self custody becomes easier.
Privacy and self custody are the real goals.
