I have long found Burge's numbers more interesting than his explanations. For example, in this post, he neglects how non-religious gatherings can be beneficial (e.g. sporting events, music concerts, clubs). And it seems to me the most obvious explanation for posted trend that increasing church attendance reduced trust in the 2010s, is the rise of conspiratorial preaching in churches (birtherism, deep state, election fraud). That Republican decline in trust since Nixon is breathtaking!
