Pretty good explanation of reverse function. Looking at the channel list in Chirp I was struggling to understand why 'repeater frequencies' also exist in channels 15-22 without the +5 transmit offsets. Now it makes sense.

When I first heard about coded squelch it wasn't apparent to me how this feature could be used without accidentally talking over other parties using the channel. As I understand it with coded squelch on, your receive LED should still light up to indicate the channel is in use, then you can hold down the monitor button to temporarily bypass coded squelch, to make sure someone isn't calling for help, etc?

I appreciate that a GMRS license doesn't have a test requirement like ham but it's a good example of the drawbacks of relying on government-issued permission slips and certifications to convey an assurance of competency.
