#EngenderedWriting 09 — Is there a place for gender slurs in gender fiction? (E.g., Slut, bitch, etc.) Defend your opinion.
Going back in time because I find this question interesting.
I think there sometimes a place for gender slurs in fiction.
Sometimes it is worth writing characters who are reclaiming slurs. Bitch and slut in particular are frequently reclaimed in some circles and more power to them. Those people should get representation too.
In a story that includes sexism, there will be gendered slurs. That's the nature of the beast. Not everyone wants to write (or read!) stories that include overt sexism, and that's okay. but we need stories that include overt sexism both to show people fighting back against it and in historical fiction to accurately depict what life was like so we-as-a-society don't forget.
(The tradwife movement is one example of what happens when we DO forget.)
