Lauca River region is famous for its polychrome chullpas, funerary decorated structures belonging to the pre-Inca Aymara nobles.
The chullpas stand isolated in a landscape that remains seemingly unchanged since the arrival of the Incas in 15th Century CE. The chullpas are made of adobe and stone and vary in height from 3-4m. Some are decorated with pigmented mud.
