I haven’t used passport so you may need to do some more research on that hw but there are some clarifications worth highlighting:
a passphrase on a BIP-39 wallet doesnt erase the original wallet. Most wallets maintain the base wallet on the hw and you enter the passphrase each time you want to access the passphrase wallet. If you remember or backup your passphrase somewhere then your original seed phrase still serves as an adequate backup.
a typical microSD card backup of the base wallet is sufficient if you remember the passphrase. you would just recover the wallet to a new hw wallet and then enter the passphrase later if desired to access the passphrase wallet. you probably don’t have to backup the wallet with passphrase on its own SD backup if you remember your passphrase (check how passport handles SD backups)
if this is for separated utxos and you don’t mind keeping your other coins on the original wallet, you don’t have to transfer your coins to the passphrase wallet. Use the passphrase wallet for some coins and your original wallet for others if you want to.
for sparrow you can keep your original wallet and use it as needed. Just add another wallet via pubkey for your passphrase wallet
