Was at the Library of Congress the other day and visited, for the first time, Thomas Jefferson’s library. At the time they acquired it just over 200 years ago, it was the largest private collection of books in the US. It more than doubled the number of books in the LoC.
It’s SMALL. Jefferson’s entire library, accumulated over a lifetime, was just under 6500 volumes.
I think I have more books than that.
It really drove home how access to information has accelerated, even without the Internet.
