One thing that strikes me about #Portland compared to #Austin is hardware stores. In ATX, over the decades I lived there, all the indy hardware stores seemed to have closed down (except Breed & Co was there last I saw).

In PDX, however, there are all these small neighborhood hardware stores (no box stores) and they are AWESOME. The small stores are surprisingly well stocked & service is fantastic.

I'm guessing this is due to city zoning + density in PDX, and if that's what does it I luv it!
