I read this article today on Trump trying to replace the IRS (Internal Revenue Service & income taxes) with the ERS (External Revenue Service & tariffs). I'm not a fan of any taxes, but have thought that the best situation, if we are going to fund government with taxes, is a to use only a sales tax, so we can see exactly what we are paying, the government isn't digging in our personal business like with income taxes, and if we produce our own stuff we can avoid paying taxes. If Trump truly replaced the IRS with the ERS, that would probably be an improvement over the current system because then the government wouldn't have an excuse to be in every individual's private business and spending. On the other hand, he can't create the ERS or abolish the IRS himself. I greatly fear that we will end up with both and be much worse off. Time will tell.
