I would agree with the "you are responsible for whom you elect" if there were accountability from the elected, but basically there isn't, and there's often immunity and other provisions to protect officials from both law and the electorate.
Then comes the issue of you elected A, and A appointed C, who is Literally Hitler™. Are those that voted for A therefore responsible for the actions of C? And if C appoints D, does that culpability follow on as well?
