In 1811 JMW Turner took a tour of the Westcountry, and in 1812, back in his studio, he painted the scene below.
A couple of weeks ago, I visited Petworth House, where Turner was a frequent visitor, and took this photo.
Apparently, this scene shows the river at Teignmouth, near where I live, but you'd have to say it really doesn't look like that now.
I'm a bit of a sucker for a Turner though, and I really like the woman driving her cows in the bottom corner.
