Okay so I've had a thought and connected two dots:
You know how sometimes cultures will produce some intricate and beautiful tools, perhaps sometimes to the point of becoming showpieces?
I'm thinking things like carved combs, hand mirrors, knives, etc... Things that become heirlooms.
And then, there is this object that every truck driver in France, maybe even in Europe, has in their truck: something you put inside the handle of a gas pump so you don't have to keep squeezing the thing for ten minutes straight.
Most often, it takes the form of a block of wood, but I've seen people use some many different objects: a lighter case, pliers handles, a hammer, even a rock! I personaly use a single blind rivet...
And to me, that object seems so ripe for becoming an art form, with drivers trying to one up each other with creativity!
One day maybe
