Fun fact: the Latin word for "Lead" is "Plumbum", sounds an awful lot like the word "Plumbing" doesn't it? That's because the Romans used the metal to make the pipes for their aqueducts, it would be bad, if it weren't for the water's constant flow and mineral nature that reduced the odds of contamination by the lead.
The water was most likely more drinkable than tap water in America today.
