#PennedPossibilities 502 — How do your characters feel about plastic / cosmetic surgeries and procedures, if this is something that applies to your universe?

Since my prizefighter MC (a woman) incurs a number of facial and bodily injuries during her career (broken noses, split skin, etc.), I know restorative medical procedures exist. They're discussed and experienced first hand.

In the reluctance universe, people including the MC regularly use hair and skin dyes. The MC uses powdered makeup and spray lacquer in a totally inappropriate way (spoilers). Many men use something like mascara (like the ancient Egyptians did). Bodily image is a lot more realistic in the general population, though interest groups have their own "interests." Since there's little competition for mates, and none for finding a partner who will take care of you until death do you part, the imperative to look especially attractive or symmetrical doesn't really exist. That doesn't mean people don't want to change their looks or eliminate what they consider flaws.

The SF universe and the fantasy universe I am writing in right now both have societies a reader would consider both modern and urbanized. I see no reason why cosmetic surgeries would not exist.
