I was listening to a R.C. Sproul sermon yesterday. He was talking about lecturing to a seminary class about the Sovereignty of God as stated in the Westminister Statement of faith. He asked the audience, “who believes God is in control of everything that is and happens?” About 75% raised their hands. He then asked, “who doesn’t believe that?” About 25% raised their hands. Lastly he asked, “who is an atheist?” Nobody raised their hand on that one. He then asked why the 25% didn’t raise their hands. This group of Christians didn’t appreciate the question. Then he made a very insightful statement. If there is anything that is outside God’s control, then He isn’t God and His promises can’t be trusted. He may be powerful, but He can’t guarantee what will happen if every molecule isn’t under His authority.
God is in control and that is why we can trust Him and His promises no matter what Our pride doesn’t like to think that someone can control our thoughts or actions, but He is God. He is Creator. He is the ultimate authority in all things. Praise be to God!
