mastodon has a terms of service, as does wordpress. it's not like by self-hosting we avoid this stuff.
Now the software licenses and the therms under which software is provided as a service are two different things.
So e.g. so can download and install Masto by the GNU Affero General Public License #^https://www.gnu.org/licenses/ but this says nothing about the terms under which a Masto Server is running and allowing registration. This is up to the one who is running the server as a service for others.

Now if you are an artists running an own Website ( ideally with free software e.g. like WP) You are the one who does define the terms and conditions under with you offer things.
Personally i donΒ΄t want to be pushed into surveilling systems just because i like your songs. Unfortunately even bandcamp does quid a lot tracking :-( . So ideally i would like to find your publications without tracking other parties included.
