I may put a nip05-identified tab in notifications and DMs as a very basic spam filter. Its not ideal but it's better than having it wide-open just waiting to be spam attacked. This will just be one factor to stop spam, other things like orange checks/paid badges and pow will be considered in the future.

Eventually spammers will utilize many TLDs to get around this type of spam checking, so again its not perfect. There could be an option to spamblock whole nip05 TLDs to slow them down.
