If Reddit's management weren't thick as a brick they'd have dealt with their third-party app "problem" by buying up the top ten third party apps (eg. Apollo), removing the ad-blocking, but giving it back to moderators.
That's how Amazon handled rival online discount/second-hand bookstores, eg. Book Depository and AbeBooks.
