I have completely ignored the latest AI hype cycle.
I have never used an LLM, neither have I used the AI powered spitter-outer of ambiguously licensed (sneakily hoovered-up open source) code.
However, yesterday I spoke to an engineer who I respect who said that this is the future, and such AI augmentation is a great productivity boost (for people who already know how to program well enough).
This got me thinking whether I am wrong in my lack of interest in these kinds of tools, and whether I should give them a fair shake soon.
- What do you feel about this?
- What was your experience like?
- In how many years will this be part of the baseline development environment, if ever?
- At what point will not using these put one at a significant disadvantage?
