When nations have to worry about their own security, a lot of diplomacy is needed and there is always risks of skirmishes breaking out. Europe has not had to worry about security since 1949 due to NATO, but that situation may be coming to an end. And of course that is a tectonic shift in the posture of each of these countries in Europe, including their posture towards each other. So of course they will argue strongly for NATO and against Trump because they don't want to lose this security umbrella.
But also, it is not the duty of the US to provide world peace. And European countries haven't even really appreciated it to the point of investing their measly 2% into security. Some argue that the USA liked that sitation because it established them more firmly as boss, and Europe as vassals. But given the US debt, and US inefficiency in terms of growing and maintaining the military vis-a-vis China, things have to change at some point. The only way the US can maintain its hegemony against rising China is to become much more efficient, hence DOGE, hence cutting off Ukraine, etc.
I don't think Russia wants to capture territory full of people who don't want to be Russian. But we will see if Russia takes the opportunity to take Western Ukraine or further. NATO still exists and Poland and the Balitcs are still protected and the US is obligated to defend them.
