#Putin has just voiced an offer to provide mineral resources to “out partners from USA”, which is a funny turn of events after #Russia state media had for decades scared Russians that “US only want our resources but great Putin saved our sovereignty”, called US “faggots” (пиндосы) and described it as “decaying”.
But these are usual Russian plots twists. What was unusual, was that Putin has mentioned “resources in Kabardino-Balkaria in Caucasus” on his list of resources he want to offer to Americans. And I happen to have been there many times and I’ve seen these resources 😂
Putin is speaking of tungsten and molybdenum mine and processing plant in #Tyrnyauz where production stopped in 1990’s as the Soviet production was very expensive and simply lost economic sense after #USSR collapsed. The plant was since abandoned and left to the looters, who literally took it apart for scrap metal. The mine tunnels were stripped of anything of value - pipes, cabling, railways, machinery, literally everything has been taken from there over 30 years. The same happened to the enrichment plant outside - there’s nothing left of it, only half-collapsed concrete walls.
In 2017 Russian state corporation “Rostec” announced a plan to restart extraction by the new technology. But I was there in 2018 and… nothing changed. The looters were busy looting, there was literally zero signs of any investment. As far as I’m aware, nothing has changed since. New investments were announced in 2021 and 2023, but any local news on the subject end in 2024 announcing “delays”…
So in my opinion Putin could just as well announce leasing “Azovstal” or Avdiivka coke plant to Americans - plants his troops destroyed that would require more spending on restoring them than rebuilding them from scratch, as they require dismantling and unexploded ordnance removal.
