I actually partially agree with Vance that the situation in Ukraine is also the fault of European leaders. They have seriously bungled up the situation with Russia (for decades) and now they have to deal with the fallout.
What you call terms meant to appeal to the populace are genuine problems facing Europe right now. That they come from the mouth of Vance who was appointed by Trump, doesn't change that.
I don't really care much who Vance meets with or doesn't meet.
European leaders, if they want to stop the U.S. from running roughshod over this matter, will have to pull their heads out of their arses and finally face the fact that they've messed up.
Considering what the U.S. political scene is like now, Europe can not afford to be dependent on them for their defence long term.
