I wouldn't care one bit about wanting profit if they could just be bothered to pretend that they had some other objective in mind. Or that they gave the slightest shit about what they made beyond how big their royalty check is. I read because I want to see novel ideas and stories, or at least entertaining ones. If I wanted to read some low-tier slop ripping off a popular series I'd go to any fanfiction site out there and get it for free, and probably in better quality at that.
