My column this week touches on the current state of research and development expensing in the US.
Broken by the last guy and still not fixed.
"From ’54 until the TCJA in 2017, Section 174 of the tax code allowed companies to expense qualified R&D spending in the year the costs were incurred. This provided a direct and immediate tax benefit for research in critical areas such as technology, pharmaceuticals, and engineering.
Now, we're falling behind.”
