I think the reason so many liberals got shaken by that last debate is because it opened their eyes to something they've been ignoring for a while. That's the thing. You can appeal to liberals with the cognitive dissonance that they're trying to shut out, because it actually bothers them, too. To fully erase the cognitive dissonance, you have to turn further rightward.
