had the sweetest conversation in class today with undergrads where me trying to explain the problems with narratives about progress, especially technological progress, led them to ask "but how do we lead happy and fulfilling lives if we don't think in terms of progress?" which led to a conversation about enjoying the value of things and experiences just for what they are and not so that you can work faster or more efficiently and not so you can accumulate greater wealth or more things...I'm going to miss teaching English majors - I have no idea whether media studies students are inclined to think this way
