I also visited east Berlin. Yes, we were followed the entire time. I am fully aware of communism.
That said, the EU needs to realize that the Bolshevik’s are no longer in charge. Russians have taken back control of their country which is largely Orthodox Catholic, we should be allies with them.
One of my memories of youth was how the (left) loved them???
