A conversation I've had this evening has me wondering, depictions of masculinity within American media was on a course moving into the mid-Eighties, but then AIDS killed basically everyone who was moving culture in that direction and we ended up with Die Hard for a generation or more.
Maybe a part of my life today is mourning the loss of that culture we have never known because the more gentle side of masculinity was killed out in mass culture a few decades ago.
