Odd. On my Mac laptop I have an external 4TB drive. Used Disk Utility to do the deed. Two partitions
- Toshiba
- Backup
in my case both APFS but I could probably change them to ExFat.
Nope, not going to do a test case.
I did find this

which has a work around where the guy resized with APFS & then changed to ExFat to get what he wanted (and worked in his Tesla).
