I still just barely remember that Hollywood propaganda image of America I had in my childhood. I suppose those 80's movies had a grain of truth to them too, America had incredible aspects to it, but that curated image where anything is possible was hyperreality if anything is. I think David Lynch's career is a kind of meta commentary on the dissonance of the Hollywood projector and the Hollywood reality of child rape.
