tiktok is pretty objectively bad, but i don't think it's uniquely bad. it has a combination of shortform video + lack of comment permeability + lack of good user experience (opaque algorithm, easy venues for harassment, etc) that are shared by all the shortform video spots right now, and they're all pretty equally grotesque. the goal for banning tiktok is fairly clearly because of sinophobia and fears of loss of US dominance (which is already happening culturally)
