If these journalists and activists in India are truly serious about free speech, why don't they advocate for repealing the first amendment that places restrictions on fundamental rights of Indians?
Why aren't they calling for abolishing the Censor Board and the ministry of information and broadcasting?
Why aren't they calling for the removal of all forms of licensing for setting up a media and communication platform?
Why aren't they challenging the supreme court decision that held that there is such a ridiculous thing as a 'right to reputation' as part of the right to life?
Why aren't they calling for abolishing defamation laws?
Not a single 'public personality' in India is serious about 'free speech' if they don't advocate for all of the above and more deregulation of speech.
By not doing it, they are proving that they just want speech they like and ban speech they don't like when their people come into power.
Crying about it on Instagram everytime the Indian government predictably abuses its power is only going to make people who watch it miserable and outraged, which isn't helping anyone.
