I am Nomishka from Sri Lanka. I would like to share my personal experience through my life journey. My ambition is to pay tribute to my #family and jurjendevries (npub1l77…swft) for helping me go on this great path. Also, if someone can make his/her life better with this story, it is a pleasure for me.
I hated my school education too. Because there were many useless subjects that I didn't need to learn. Why do we need to learn the subjects we don't need and like? I attended school for 13 years because I had no option without this rat race. My mindset is made by the school teachers every time they say you can't spend a good life without that school education. According to Sri Lanka, it is true, as most of the people are like frogs that are in a well. They run the rat race together with 8.00am-5.00pm jobs. They don't know and learn beyond the tradition. In my experience, I learned school is making a bunch of workers instead of a bunch of thinkers. There is a very nice world that based community beyond that tradition. After those 13 years, I selected the university, which is very far away from my town. That is around a 12-hour journey. I went there around 1 year, and I left there because of two reasons. The first is that I didn't need to separate from my family, and the second is that I don't like those studies. I learned for the Bachelor of Commerce degree there. After I left my university, I went to a job in a hotel as an accounts clerk, for which I got a very low salary. After the bus fair, I had a very low amount of food and so. I am talking about 2019/2020. After COVID, my hotel job was lost also. Then I was looking for many jobs, and I went through a lot of interviews. But they needed as much as school and paid course certificates.
In 2021 is the turning point of my life. I met jurjendevries (npub1l77…swft). He detected my mindset that I didn't want to be a traditional person. I knew about #bitcoin from him. He taught me about bitcoin, and I self-learned also. With the hyper-inflation started that time in Sri Lanka, he asked me to save in bitcoin as it is the best option for the inflation, and I was able to save some and do some temporary fixes in my house roof some years ago. I started my favorite job, which is as a web developer, at that time. He taught me that self-learning is the best option, as there is everything we have to learn via the internet for free. As I felt, I found my intrinsic motivation and started my journey as a developer. He joined me as a trainee frontend developer to the Dilmah Europe web development team. With that, I did some technology-sharing things at #permanetfuturelab with my social capital. Along that journey, he asked me to learn about Nostr development too. I learned about #nostr from him. Also, I learned some basic knowledge myself about nostr.
Also, I would like to say my brother samalka (npub1nu5…hjyn) is also a person (just 16 years old) who has the same mindset as me (but the more updated version of mine 😂). Everyone says he is the photocopy of mine. Jurjen helped him also with some knowledge and asked him to do web development studies as he was also interested in it. As a trainee frontend developer, he also has some knowledge now. He is a quicker learner than me.
From December 2024, Jurjen gave me a great idea, which is to make a weekly nostr recap for the nostr community. I was so interested in it, although I was jobless from November 2024. I needed to do something for this great community. In there we mentioned I need some funding as V4V for making this recap better because I am jobless. I didn't skip any week, although how hard the situation was. Mostly I made the recap without sleeping to publish on time. After some months, a great person with a golden heart, Rabble (npub1wmr…g240), was interested in sponsoring my recap. I also have not many school and course formal certificates. The thing I learned that all are based in the community, and we need to help each other. School is a scam, and there are many ways to find jobs without those school certificates in the world.
Also, some months ago I started #permaculture again after 3 failed attempts. I needed a self-sufficient garden and provide food for ourselves without any additional cost for the supermarkets.
So homeschooling is the best option over the internet. You can learn everything via the internet with yourselves. Everything is possible; believe yourself and be positive. Go beyond the tradition. All the best! Thank you all the community who helped me along my journey!
