1. (as standalone tool) format a bunch of disks from a .nix configuration file
2. (as NixOS module) auto-populate your fileSystems behind the scenes
This didn't really come across in disko's (quite scattered) docs. Also it often sounds as if flakes are somehow a hard requirement, which put me off for a long time.
