(1/3) Ōrākei Kōrako is a thermal park reached by ferry on 12km sq artificial Lake Ōhakuri (📷1&2). Sadly, 2/3rds of the geothermal area was flooded by damming Waikato River in 1961. It’s free to 🅿️ overnight w/ entry tickets. Only Emerald Terrace is seen from near bank (📷2); it extends 35m below water. Once on far bank, that terrace (📷4) is trailhead for 2.2km/ 1.5h path through the park’s features.
