I just learned to my amazement that the Outerbridge Crossing from Staten Island to Jersey is not so named because it’s, like, the Outer Bridge or anything reasonable like that, but after Mr Eugenius Outerbridge. He was a pioneer in the world of Fiberboard.
I assume his business partner was Mr NJ Transit. They fell out over the love of the noted 19th century feminist Elizabeth Linden Rahway.
