It seems that some car manufacturers have gone the iPhone route. I'm afraid it's time for regulatory intervention. All EVs should have standardised batteries that are quick and easy to replace AND owners should have the right to buy and fit third party batteries. I'd be totally up for getting an EV but only IF I could be sure that the battery could be replaced at end of life (the old one being added to our solar PV setup for extra capacity). Higher insurance premiuums is just another reason not to bother.
