You are referring to an arbitrary milepost, and I am referring to the direction we are going to or from that milepost. You are correct that we don't and arguably never will know where that milepost is or should be, but if there is a cliff that you are headed towards, and it requires everyone to coordinate a change in direction, it would be good advice to steer at least sightly away from that cliff.
