Some academics are still in the vanguard of folks in their discipline who are here. The tools to build community here are different than what they are on other social media. Here are some tips I recommend.

Because it's not as easy to see threads & replies I'd say that boosting good replies is a crucial change of habit. You might have been afraid of RTing too much at the bird site, but you need to boost things here because there is no algorithm.
