It's part of why I'm reluctant to push people to emigrate to somewhere else. Where is "less bad", your home country where you may have family (found or biological), friends, know the language, have at least some level of legal protections for having citizenship, or being in a strange country, knowing few people, few options for employment, and immigrant/refugee/asylum status? It's really going to be an impossible question to answer until hindsight.
